Home Inspections - A Business Opportunity
The prospect for growth in the home inspection industry is high.
In the United States there are more families buying houses than
ever before. Homebuyers are also becoming more aware of the
benefits and requesting a home inspection to be a part of the
buying transaction. According to the American Society of Home
Inspectors, approximately 77% of the homes sold in the US and
Canada are inspected prior to purchase - as opposed to 15 years
ago only about 40% of the houses sold were inspected. Lending
institutions are requesting a home inspection be performed on houses.
States are legislating laws that mandate sellers disclose the
condition of properties sold. Realtors also recommend home
inspections because it builds trust with buyers and gives an
assurance that defects are disclosed to the buyer. Therefore,
there is a tremendous need for more home inspectors to handle
this increase in houses inspected now and in the future.
A home inspection company is ideal as a
home based business
and can be done on a full or part-time basis. Many inspectors are
doing inspections after retirement but the fastest growing group
is those making long-term career changes. You can control your
schedule, do as many inspections as you desire and be your own boss.
You have an opportunity to make good money
in the inspection business.
An average home inspection lasts approximately 2-3 hours and 3
inspections can be comfortably scheduled each working day.
The average fee is approximately $250-400.00 in the US and Canada.
However, every area is unique and as always supply and demand
indicates the fee an inspector charges. The amount of income
earned is determined by the real estate market in your area,
competition, the fee charged for each inspection, your business
management skills as well as your competency as an inspector.
It all adds up to a favorable time to start a home inspection business.
